Commonplace offers translation of Commonplaces into 19 different languages. This is particularly useful when you're looking to reach audiences who may otherwise be excluded from your engagement or consultation. Multi-lingual Commonplaces broaden your response by helping to maximise the diversity of your audience.
For a lower-cost alternative, see light translation.
Contact your account manager to discuss translating your project into other languages. They will pass your request on to the Commonplace Support team.
You can choose from either machine translation or human translation - machine translation is faster and a lower cost, but may be less accurate than human translation.
The content of your project must be finalised and signed off before translation can begin - if the content is changed, it will need to be translated again. Content in existing news posts can be translated, but project admins will be responsible for sending future news posts in other languages. Text within images and PDFs will also not be translated.
Once the translation is complete, visitors and respondents can choose their language using the dropdown menu at the top of the Commonplace page. Commonplace will store their selected language and automatically display it next time they visit the project.

Commonplace supports both left-to-right and right-to-left languages. We currently support translation into the following languages:
Arabic
Bengali
English
German
Gujarati
Hebrew
Italian
Korean
Polish
Portuguese
Punjabi
Romanian
Somali
Spanish
Tamil
Turkish
Urdu
Welsh
Yoruba
If a language you'd like to translate your project into is not listed here, we are able to add new languages upon request (please note that there is an additional turnaround time associated with this).
The lead time to machine translate a project into one of the 19 supported languages is 5 working days, starting once the add-on has been purchased and the content has been finalised.
Human translation may take longer than this due to the additional time spent sourcing a translator.
The lead time to add an unsupported language to a project is 20 working days, starting once the add-on has been purchased and the content has been finalised.
Please contact your account manager to learn about pricing for adding multiple languages to your Commonplace. Pricing varies based on language(s) required and whether you prefer human or machine translation.
